The par 71, 5,972-metre golf course is set on the edge of rolling virgin bushland and offers a unique vantage point with iconic views over the city and harbour.
In 1966, Arnold Palmer put the ball on the green with a stunning 370-metre drive, followed by two precision putts to draw level with Bob Charles. Gary Player stunned the field with a hole-in-one on the 283-metre ‘Ridge’ at Balmacewen, where Bobby Locke won the New Zealand Open trophy in 1938, and Peter Thompson won the New Zealand Open Championship. Bobby Locke won the NZ Open trophy here in 1938, while Peter Thompson won here twice, in 1953 and 1971.
