Course Introduction
Lahinch is a stunning golfing destination. The rugged terrain is unique, varied and entertaining. This traditional round trip course is situated next to the stunning beach at Liscannor Bay. Lahinch has hosted the Southern Ireland Championship, which has been played annually since 1895. ‘The ‘King of Lahinch’ won the South Irish Championship 11 times between 1928 and 1946.
The view across the bay from the third hole is breathtaking. The 446-yard par four has a blind fairway and the path to the hidden fairway is blocked by a hill on the right. The fourth hole is a short par 5 called Klondyke, one of the most unusual holes in golf. The tee shot requires finding the narrow corrugated fairway in a valley between sand dunes. A blind second shot must be taken over Klondyke, a towering dune that spans the fairway and is about 200 yards from the green. It's certainly an odd hole, but a memorable one.
Another very peculiar hole is called The Dell, the famous blind par-3 5th, where the green is nestled between towering sand dunes that surround a narrow green. A stone at the top of the dunes indicates the location of the hole from the tee, so golfers are advised to take into account the wind direction, choose the right club for the yardage and aim for the hidden flag before swinging.
