Course Introduction

The club is located in a small town north of Auckland, New Zealand, just a 90-minute drive from Auckland city centre. Once known as a surfing destination, the town is now famous for its golf course.

Designed by Tom Doak, the North Course opened in October 2023 and is already receiving high praise. In July 2024, the latest World's 100 Best list (outside the USA) published by Golf Digest magazine (USA) ranked North Course 36th. Inspired by the Pine Valley course in the United States, the designers have honed a course that has the feel of Pine Valley in a site of dramatic undulations and sandy terrain.

Perhaps the most notable holes on the course are the 11th and 13th. The 11th is a long par 5 with an elevated green and a ‘swirl’ of hazards on the right side, about 7 metres from the green. The 13th hole is a long par 4 with the green on the edge of a large natural bunker, so the second shot must either go over the bunker or safely around to the left. The hole is reminiscent of the Pine Barrens in New Jersey, as indeed is much of the inland terrain of Tiale.
