Khao Yai is situated northeast of Bangkok, a two-hour drive away. It is Thailand's first national park, serving as the gateway from the central plains to the northeast plateau. Surrounded by vast mountains, Khao Yai, in Thai, means "big mountain."


Established in 1962, Khao Yai National Park was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The park features dense rainforests, cascading waterfalls, expansive plains, and towering mountains. It serves as a habitat for wildlife such as elephants, wild boars, Malayan bears, wild buffalo, tigers, and over 200 bird species. From November to February, daytime temperatures range from 23 to 28 degrees Celsius, dropping to a refreshing 11 degrees Celsius in the evenings, making it a favorite destination for many Bangkok families on weekends.
