Basic information about golf courses in Thailand

1. Tropical climate.

The annual average temperature is about 29°C. The average temperature in Bangkok is 35°C in April, the hottest month, and 17°C in December, the coolest month. The dry season is from November to February of the following year, the hot season is from March to May, and the rainy season is from June to October.

2. The best season for golf in Thailand

The best season is the dry season, when there is less rainfall and lower temperatures, but due to the impact of the monsoon on Thai beach resorts, the best travel time for the Andaman Sea and Eastern beach resorts is different from that for the Gulf of Thailand beach resorts.

In the rainy season, the rainfall is relatively heavy, but it rarely rains all day, and it often rains at several times of the day, like a heavy rain. The advantage of traveling to Thailand in the rainy season is that the tour group fares, air tickets, luxury hotels and beach resorts are all relatively affordable, and you can enjoy a luxurious trip that you can't enjoy in the best travel season. Many BaiGolf golfers also reported that many good courses have special offers in the rainy season, which is very cost-effective.

Rules of playing golf in Thailand

1.  Each person has a golf cart and a caddy. Generally, the caddy service is 1:1, and the tip for the caddy is generally 400~500 baht per 18 holes. The caddy is good at looking at the line to judge the distance, creating an atmosphere, and is enthusiastic and cheerful. Basically, the caddy drives the golf cart, and beautiful caddies are available separately.

Usually, there is no GPS or automatic driving. * Some golf courses have GPS. A golfer can hire multiple caddies and pay the caddy fee and tip according to regulations.

2. Pay attention to sun protection and hydration. November to the end of February of the following year is the coolest dry season in Thailand, with the lowest temperature usually around 20°C and the highest temperature around 30°C. The temperature from March to the end of October is also higher than the dry season, so Baigolf’s customer service recommends that you must wear a hat and sunscreen. In the rainy season from May to the end of October, it is recommended that you bring a rain cover and umbrella for your golf bag. In addition, it is also recommended to bring a parasol and a long-sleeved functional jacket.

3. There are rest areas every 3-4 holes. Even if the teeing area is empty, don't rush forward, take a break first and replenish water to avoid heat stroke. Water is 20 baht, cola is 45 baht, and sports drinks are about 50 baht. In addition, snacks such as boiled eggs, fried chicken, potato chips and ice cream are also available. Card or cash payment is usually accepted. Some courses include the cost of playing golf, or there is a voucher system.

4. Clothing: The climate is hot and humid all year round, and the sunshine is strong. It is recommended to wear breathable clothes. But please note that in mountainous areas such as Chiang Mai, it may be cold in the morning and evening. The air conditioning in department stores, restaurants, air-conditioned buses and air-conditioned sleeper cars may be very strong in some areas. It is best to bring a jacket.

Vests, sandals and jeans are not allowed on the course, but T-shirts, jeans and sneakers (or sandals) are allowed in the clubhouse (restaurant). Golf courses generally do not have strict clothing requirements (except for membership courses/premium courses)

5. Each group must have at least three players; if there are two, the course may arrange to combine them. Some golf courses allow a maximum of five players per group.

How to choose a place to play golf in Thailand?

1. Chiang Mai: Cool climate and rich natural environment

2. Bangkok: Asia's leading golf paradise, explore the charm of Thailand's capital

3. Pattaya: Colorful nightlife, charming and enchanting beaches

4. Phuket: The first choice for vacation, charming island with infinite charm

5. Hua Hin: The birthplace of Thai golf

6. Khao Yai: A cost-effective niche destination that locals are fascinated by

Chiang Mai

It takes about 1-1 hour 15 minutes by domestic flight from Bangkok, and there are beautiful temples and cityscapes here, which retain traces of the Lanna Dynasty. The climate in northern Thailand is pleasant, with an average annual temperature of about 27°C. The best time to visit is the dry season (November to early March of the following year), when there is almost no rain, the average temperature is about 23°C, and the climate is more pleasant.

In Chiang Mai, there are more than 10 courses within an hour's drive of the city center, and the nearest course is only 20 minutes away. The layout of the 20 courses, including Chiang Rai and Lamphun, makes full use of the undulating terrain of the northern mountains. BaiGolf golfers can enjoy the cool climate and rich natural environment.

Bangkok

The capital Bangkok and its suburbs are home to the highest concentration of golf courses in Thailand, including golf courses around the 24-hour Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the World Cultural Heritage Ayutthaya, the birthplace of Buddhism Nakhon Pathum, and the blessed Kanchanaburi.

Most courses are built on flat terrain, but they are strategically designed with ponds and bunkers that will satisfy even the most experienced golfers. While staying in the capital Bangkok, you can also enjoy the colorful city life.

Pattaya

Pattaya has been a holiday resort since the 1960s. In the past, the area was popular with tourists, and with the opening of Suvarnabhumi International Airport, accessibility has improved greatly. You can transfer from Bangkok Airport or take a bus from Bangkok, which takes about 2 hours. More golfers come here to play golf than ever before.

Golf courses are scattered along the road from Bangkok to Pattaya and in the hilly areas on the outskirts of Pattaya. Compared with the flat layout of Bangkok, most courses have less undulating layouts and rich variations. Like resort areas, many courses have accommodation facilities attached, providing an environment where you can enjoy playing golf during your stay.

Phuket

Southern Thailand is home to a concentration of famous resorts, including Phuket, a popular BaiGolf golfer's favorite, Koh Samui, an adult beach resort in harmony with nature, and Khao Lak, with its unspoiled wilderness. Marine sports and other activities are popular, and of course you can play golf.

Blue Canyon Country Club is a famous course that combines beauty and strategy, known as the most beautiful course in Asia; Mission Hills Phuket Golf & Spa was designed by Jack Nicklaus, and its floating greens on the beach are impressive; Koh Samui Golf & Spa is located on the mountainside on the north coast of Koh Samui, with constantly changing altitudes. There are both easy beginner courses where you can play on the beach and strategic championship courses that will impress even the most experienced golfers. BaiGolf golfers rated it as one of the most cost-effective golf resort islands!

Hua Hin

Hua Hin is a resort on the tranquil Gulf of Thailand, 200 km southwest of Bangkok. It has been a royal summer resort since the early 20th century. Many of the existing villas and historical buildings have been the summer resorts of kings since the early 20th century, creating a noble atmosphere. Hua Hin is the birthplace of Thai golf. In 1924, the first golf course in Thailand, the Royal Hua Hin, opened here. There is also the Black Mountain Golf Club, where the Royal Trophy was held in 2011 and Ryo Ishikawa played.

Springfield Royal Country Club is also famous. It is a strategic course designed by Jack Nicklaus and also has a spa resort. Country Club, also has a spa resort. This is a veritable golf resort.

Khao Yai

The northeastern region of Thailand, known as "Issan", is a peaceful, nature-rich area with many national parks, including the World Natural Heritage Khao Yai National Park. The area has a long history, with prehistoric agricultural civilization and a long history of Khmer dynasty rule.

Located near Khao Yai National Park, Kilimaya Golf Resort and Spa also offers accommodation with private pools, massage spas, and sports and leisure facilities. The course was designed by Jack Nicklas. You can enjoy playing in the fresh air and visit neighboring ranches and shops in the middle. The course is inexpensive compared to other areas and is crowded with locals on weekends. Recommended as a holiday golf course.

Delicious food in Thailand

Thai cuisine is diverse, including Tom Yum Goong, one of the three most famous soups in the world, curries with a variety of spices and ingredients such as pork and chicken, and noodles with flavors ranging from light to strong. The essence of Thai cuisine is to "enjoy" fresh ingredients from the local market. Thai cuisine is generally considered "spicy", but it also has "spicy", "sweet", "sour", "salty", "sour" five flavors, sweet, sour, salty, salty and umami, which combine to form a unique flavor. Thailand is a treasure trove of food, and you can enjoy the deliciousness of Thailand with your stomach.

Specialties:

Tom Yum Kung: As Thailand's "national soup", Tom Yum Kung is the most popular and famous dish. At the same time, it is one of the top ten famous soups in the world. Tom Yum Kung is the transliteration of the Thai word Tom-Yum-Kung. In Thai, "Tom Yum" means sour and spicy, and "Kung" refers to shrimp, and together they make sour and spicy shrimp soup.

Green Curry: Green curry is a spicy curry whose main ingredients include green curry paste, basil and coconut milk. The taste is salty first and sweet later. Green curry paste is made of green chili and blue bird's eye chili, fried with coconut milk until light green, and then mixed with a variety of spices to increase the aroma. It is usually eaten with meat, vegetables and rice or rice noodles.

Mango Sticky Rice: Mango Sticky Rice is a classic dessert in Thailand. Only by tasting mango and sticky rice together can you experience the wonderful taste fusion between them. The sweet and sour mango complements the sweet fragrance of Thai fragrant sticky rice soaked in rich coconut milk, creating an indescribable wonderful taste.

Northern Thai curry noodles: Northern Thai curry noodles are a specialty of northern Thailand and were ranked first in the "50 Best Soups" by Tasteatlas in 2022. This noodle dish features a coconut milk soup base and the spicy taste of curry sauce, served with noodles, meat (chicken, beef or pork), crispy fried noodles and a variety of side dishes such as pickled mustard greens, scallions, fried chili peppers and lime.

Green papaya salad: Green papaya salad, a northeastern Thai snack that is popular all over the world, is known for its unique five flavors - sour, sweet, salty, spicy and mellow. It ranked sixth on the list of the world's best salads in 2023. The main ingredients include green papaya, cherry tomatoes, bitter eggplants, chili peppers, cowpeas and garlic, and the seasoning relies on palm sugar, fish sauce and lime juice.

Pomelo salad: A traditional Thai salad, known for its sweet, sour, salty and spicy complex taste, it is often enjoyed as an appetizer and has a delicious and juicy taste. The base of this salad includes fish sauce, palm sugar, lime, shallots and chili, while dried shrimp, roasted peanuts, roasted coconut flakes and fried onions are used as ingredients to add flavor. The sour taste of pomelo salad mainly comes from the pomelo itself. If you don't like the taste that is too sour, you can choose not to add lemon juice.

Street food is a part of daily life for many Thais, and now Thailand's street food stalls have developed into a mecca for delicious food. In Bangkok, street food stalls can be found on almost every corner, and they are open 24 hours a day, and in some places, even all night long. These food stalls offer a wide variety of tempting foods, including but not limited to curry rice, noodles, green papaya salad, grilled chicken and fresh seafood.

Recommended food streets:

China town: Between Yaowarat and Chalongkorn Roads there are hundreds of street stalls offering different kinds of food and snacks, including all kinds of Chinese food, dumplings, seafood, noodle soup, bird's nest soup, Chinese herbal drinks, and don't forget the Thai porridge called "Joke"!

Khao San Road: Khao San Road is not only famous for its colorful night entertainment, but also for its delicious street food. There are a variety of food and Thai snacks, such as noodle soup, white-cut chicken, Thai fried rice, Thai fried egg with rice, fried rice and so on.

Silom Road: Soi Convent in the direction of Bangkok Bank (20 meters ahead of Silom Street)

Silom Road is the main commercial street in Bangkok. There are many street stalls in this section that provide lunch and dinner for office workers. Recommended dishes include Bamee Keaw Daeng, Khao Moo Daeng, Khao Man Kai, beef noodles, grilled seafood, Thai sukiyaki, green papaya salad and grilled meat.

Thong Lo and Ekkamai: This is another option for dining. Although the price is relatively expensive, the stalls here are open all day and some areas are open almost all night. You can try Thai porridge, noodle soup, satay, barbecued pork and Thai fried noodles here.

Thailand car charter guide

When renting a car in Thailand, choose BaiGolf to help you, which is convenient, fast, and you won’t get lost.

Thailand car rental guide

Car rental preparation materials:

1. Original passport of the main driver

2. Driver's license documents:

1) Driver's license + driver's license certification

2) Driver's license + embassy certification (after obtaining the notarized driver's license, go to the embassy to handle it)

3) Non-mainland Chinese users - local driver's license of the issuing country + international driver's license IDP

3. Credit card: It needs to be in the name of the main driver, Mastercard or Visa, and the available limit must be more than US$1,000.

4. Printed copy of the car pick-up order/electronic car pick-up order

Tips for renting a car in Thailand:

1. Vehicle selection

Thailand's terrain is high in the east and low in the west, mainly composed of gentle hills and plateaus. Different means of transportation can be selected according to different personal travel needs.

For those travelers who need to travel through the east and west of Thailand, it will be more comfortable to choose a powerful SUV with a higher chassis because the mountain roads along the way are rugged and there are many bends.

For those travelers who mainly drive between cities or islands, compact cars are a suitable choice.

2. Notes on picking up and returning the car

1) The main driver brings all the relevant documents for picking up the car. It is recommended to bring two international credit cards in your name and ensure sufficient available credit

2) Additional drivers need to be registered

3) Check the vehicle. It is recommended to take photos to avoid disputes that may occur when returning the car

4) Check the contract amount and keep all contracts and documents

Notes on self-driving in Thailand:

1. Drive on the left.

2. Pedestrians have absolute right of way, and vehicles must give way to pedestrians.

3. There are many motorcycles in Thailand, so be careful of them at all times.

4. Do not overtake school buses that are picking up and dropping off students. Give way to the main road on the auxiliary road, give way to those who have entered the roundabout before entering the roundabout, and go straight when turning.

5. Important traffic signs:

6. Speed limit: The speed limit on rural roads in Thailand is 60 kilometers, and the maximum speed limit on highways is 130 kilometers. Speeding is generally fined 100 to 200 baht.

7. There are not many highways in Thailand, and the traditional manual/ETC charging methods are used, and manual charging is mostly paid in cash.

8. Manuel refueling is the main method, supporting cash and credit card payments. If you choose to refuel by yourself, you need to distinguish between diesel and gasoline, and diesel is a blue gun. In some areas of Thailand, charging services require Thai identity authentication before they can be used. If it is an electric car, you can charge it at a hotel with a charging pile, and you may pay an additional fee, or confirm the location of the charging pile available on the way or at the destination in advance.

9. Most shopping malls, hotels, and scenic spots offer free parking. Parking signs in Thailand are divided into odd and even day restrictions, so pay attention to roadside signs.

Thailand golf course recommendation list

Golfers often ask BaiGolf customer service: Which golf courses in Thailand are recommended? This is a question that cannot be answered quickly. Because the quality of a golf course is related to many aspects, such as course design, facilities, price, transportation, etc., and the selection criteria will also vary depending on personal golf skills and budget.

Generally speaking, famous golf courses in Thailand have a long history, beautiful design, high difficulty, can host famous events, are well maintained, have luxurious facilities, and provide high-quality services. They are definitely worth a try, and they may be crowded even on weekdays.

On the other hand, golf courses such as Bangkok and Pattaya, which are far away from the city and have average course and facility conditions, are reasonably priced and not crowded even on weekends, so you can play golf leisurely.

BaiGolf customer service has sorted out the must-play golf courses in Thailand/night courses/beautiful caddies/member courses/cost-effective courses, etc.~ Let's take a look!
